Collection: Kalbeliya

Kalbeliya is a traditional Rajhastani dance, performed by the tribespeople of the same name. Kalbeliya tribes are nomads who are snake charmers by profession (also called saperas or jogis). Kalbelia songs are based on stories taken from folklore and mythology, and special dances are performed during Holi. The Kalbelia have a reputation for composing lyrics spontaneously and improvising songs during performances. These songs and dances are part of an oral tradition that is handed down through generations and for which there are neither texts nor training manuals.
Women dancers wear ghagra and angrakhi embroidered in colours and mirrors. When they twirl, a multi hued Kaleidoscope is created.
